    In 1937, Emma Rebecca Haynes, a schoolteacher and librarian, wrote the first history of Polk County, Texas, using as her research base an extensive collection of personal interviews, correspondence and research from various sources. The history, formally published in 1996, continues to be a valuable document reflecting Polk County's history from its beginning in 1846 to the 1930s.
