WWW Local

WebPage Space

Before you get started you need to apply for your FREE 5 meg web site so that we can assign your URL. This will be your "www.livingston.net/username" location on the world wide web. This process will take a couple of days and at that time you will receive email notification from us that your site is ready for use.
Email your request for your WebSpace to telcom@livingston.net.

Now you need to create your page. This is up to you to decide to use Notepad or a Word Processor in conjuction with html codes to create your page or to go the easy route and use a Web Editor Program. There are several Web Editors on the market. A Web Editor allows you to create your page without using the html codes because the editor puts the html codes in for you. One such editor you may want to try is "HotDog" as a web editor and you can download a trial version from Tucows. The trial version will allow you ample time to create your page. Another good web editor is Microsoft's Frontpage.

Once you have your page created and you have received your URL then you are ready to transfer your page to the web. To do so you need to use a File Transfer Protocol (WSFTP or FTP) progam which you can also download from Tucows if you do not already have one. This program allows you to transfer files to and from the web. You can continue to update and change your page as often as you choose by using your html codes or a web editor in conjuntion with you WSFTP or FTP program. Most of the newer web editor programs on the market today have a FTP program built in.

A HELPFUL HINT

If you use the html codes to create your page you can learn a lot by viewing the codes of other web pages. If you like something on this page then click on "View" from the menu line at the top of this browser screen. Then click on "Document Source". This will bring up a different screen showing the html codes that make this page work. When you are through viewing that html code screen then close that window and you will be back to this page. You can view the document source of most all web pages with the exception of some that are blocked.

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!!
