Estimation of Timber is low level appraisal. At times a management decision may be necessary that is based on current stand volumes/basal areas. Staples forestry will cruise the stand to the intensity necessary for the decision. If, in the future, a more detailed appraisal is necessary we now have a base on which to make comparisons of growth, investment returns, or for management decisions.
Usually this type of estimation is used in long term management to keep records accurate, and is applied regular intervals.
The cost of estimation varies according to acreage and desired intensity, but begins in the $1.50 per acre category for 100 acres are more, with an increase in smaller acreage costs. Some jobs may be quoted at a flat rate or hourly rate.
